Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites communicators and content creators to join a workshop on renewable energy in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from September 24-26, 2026. This opportunity is open to content creators interested in deepening their understanding of renewable energy issues and developing reporting skills, as well as communicators looking to strengthen their social media storytelling.
The workshop is primarily for communicators and content creators based in Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states. Interested communicators and content creators based in other states may also apply.
Uttar Pradesh has become one of India’s powerhouses in generating electricity from biomass—its installed capacity of 2.33 GW biomass generation power by the end of June 2026 was second only to Maharashtra. And in solar power, UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is pushing rooftop solar hard through the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar yojana (Solar home plan).
But there is still a long way to go before the clean energy transition makes a significant mark on India’s most populous state. And the way the transition progresses in UP will have a major influence on India’s ability to meet its goal of installing 500 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2030.
What are the challenges on the road ahead, and what are the ways to overcome these challenges? For one, it is clear that the transition to clean energy can be achieved only with widespread public support and participation. Communicators and content creators can play a catalytic role in engaging the public on various aspects of this transition, explaining why it is crucial, how it can be achieved and addressing the challenges and solutions along the way.
To help accelerate this process, EJN is holding a workshop for communicators from print, online, radio, television, and digital outlets and social media content creators—including influencers—to improve their understanding of these issues. The workshop will be held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from September 24-26, 2026.
Selected participants will learn from industry leaders, subject experts and community leaders and go on a field trip to see the rollout of renewable energy first-hand and discuss ideas with seasoned mentors. There will be specialized sessions on solutions journalism, content creation and communication skills, with hands-on training.
The workshop will be held in Agra from September 24-26, 2026.
Applicants must:
Applicants from Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states will get priority. Applicants from Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha will get secondary priority.
