Climate Shield (“we”, “us”) operates climateshieldhub.com, a platform connecting people and organisations with climate opportunities. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect
If you browse without an account
Our web server and caching system record standard technical information: IP address, browser type, pages visited and time of visit. This is used to keep the site running, secure and fast.
If you create an account
We collect the details you give us — name, email address, password (stored encrypted), and anything you add to your profile such as your organisation, location, biography, CV or résumé, and profile photo. Organisations additionally provide the details shown on their listings.
If you apply for an opportunity
Where an application is submitted through Climate Shield, we store your application and any attached documents and share them with the organisation offering that opportunity. Many opportunities instead link to the organisation’s own portal — in that case your data goes directly to them and this policy does not cover it. Check their privacy policy.
If you contact us or set up alerts
We keep the message you send and your contact details so we can reply. If you set up opportunity alerts, we store your alert criteria and email address in order to send them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
If you use the chat assistant
Our site offers an AI chat assistant. The messages you send are transmitted to Google (Gemini API) in order to generate a reply, and are stored in our own website database for up to 30 days before automatic deletion. Your IP address is stored only as a one-way hash, for rate limiting.
Please do not share sensitive personal information in the chat. We currently use Google’s free API tier, under which submitted content may be used by Google to improve their models. The assistant is instructed never to request personal details. You can delete your own chat history from within the chat window.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and measure how the site is used. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Our caching and security tools may also set technical cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, though some features will stop working if you do.
Who we share data with
- Organisations offering opportunities — when you apply through our platform, or where you have made your profile visible to them.
- Service providers who operate parts of the site on our behalf: our hosting provider, our email delivery, Google (analytics and the chat assistant), and payment processors where a paid service is used.
- Authorities, where we are legally required to do so.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: until you delete your account, or ask us to remove it.
- Applications: retained so you and the organisation have a record.
- Chat conversations: 30 days.
- Contact messages: kept while needed to handle your enquiry.
- Server and analytics logs: kept for a limited period for security and performance.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the personal data we hold about you
- correct anything inaccurate
- delete your data and close your account
- stop sending you alerts or other email
- provide a copy of your data in a portable format
Email inquiries@climateshield.com and we will respond as promptly as we can. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored encrypted, and access to the administration area is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
Children
Climate Shield is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
International transfers
We serve users across Africa and beyond, and some of our service providers process data outside your country. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
