The challenges facing agriculture and food systems have never been more urgent — and the world needs bold, scalable, technology-driven solutions to meet them. The THRIVE Global Impact Challenge 2026, organised by THRIVE Agrifood and SVG Ventures, is a global competition designed to identify and support startups developing innovative solutions for some of the world’s most pressing challenges in agriculture, food systems, and climate sustainability. More than a competition, it is a gateway to Silicon Valley’s most influential agrifood innovation ecosystem — and one of the most lucrative agrifood startup challenges in the world.
The challenge seeks groundbreaking solutions across six key themes driving transformation in the agrifood industry:
Soil Health — Solutions that restore and protect soil vitality through regenerative agriculture, bio-based pest control, novel crop nutrition, and biodiversity-enhancing approaches that secure long-term food production.
Biodiversity & Ecosystem Restoration — Startups rebuilding the natural systems that underpin food security, from diversified ecosystems to transition finance initiatives that reward nature-positive farming.
Climate Resilience & Adaptation — Technologies that help farmers adapt to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns, protect livelihoods, and build food system resilience in a warming world.
Sustainable Farming Practices — Innovations that automate and digitalise on-farm operations, optimise resource use, and help farmers transition to more sustainable production models.
Novel Fertilizers & Application — Next-generation fertilizer solutions and precision application technologies that improve efficiency, reduce runoff, and cut the environmental footprint of crop nutrition.
Nutrient Use Efficiency Tracking — Data-driven tools that help farmers monitor and optimise nutrient cycles, reduce waste, and demonstrate measurable sustainability outcomes to supply chains and investors.
After applications close, selected companies are invited to participate in a Virtual Pitch Day, where they present their solutions to industry experts and investors. Finalists then advance to compete live at the Global Impact Summit. Three finalists from each of the six themes are selected to pitch at the THRIVE Global Impact Summit in Silicon Valley — where the overall winner is announced before a global audience of investors, corporate leaders, and government officials. Finalists receive two complimentary summit tickets, a personalised pitch coaching session, and exposure to top industry leaders during Virtual Pitch Day.
The winning company receives the THRIVE Global Impact Challenge Award in addition to investment from SVG Ventures of up to USD $1 million. Beyond the prize, winners gain a place on THRIVE’s award-winning Global Accelerator Programme giving them structured Silicon Valley acceleration, investor introductions, and corporate partnership opportunities that continue long after the competition ends.
Applicants should be early-stage startups or entrepreneurs at the seed to Series A stage with innovative ideas and solutions that have the potential for growth and scalability. Entrepreneurs and startups from any country or region are encouraged to apply.Solutions must demonstrate clear alignment with one or more of the six competition themes, and applicants should be able to showcase tangible outcomes, data-driven results, or successful implementation of their solution.
Only seed to Series A startups with less than USD $200,000 in external investment are eligible — apply before May 15, 2026.
